Motivation

Open Data Euskadi

  • Initiative by Basque Government
  • Since 2009
  • Focused on opening RAW data from different administrations
  • A lot of data :-)
  • Few applications using it :-(
www.opendata.euskadi.net

Challenge!

  • Demonstrate the usefulness of the Open Data from Basque Country
  • Develop a useful model for the publication of similar data

Bizkaisense

Intelligent sensory infrastructure to improve sustainability...
... using Open Linked Data as input data

  • DeustoTech - Internet
  • DeustoTech - Energy

Starting Point

Environmental sensor data from Open Data Euskadi, provided by air-quality measurement stations from Basque Country.

  • 72 stations
  • 18 different measurement (distributed between chemical substances and solar radiation)
  • Historical data since 2007

Data Transformation

But, let's go to the ontology-mapping task...

Semantic Annotation of Pollution Sensors

SWEET 2.3

  • Semantic Web for Earth and Environmental Technology
  • Developed by NASA
  • 6,000 concepts in 200 separate ontologies
  • Orthogonal concepts (space, time, physical cuantities...)
  • Science knowledge concepts (phenomena, events...)
  • The ontology is very complex, but...

MUO

  • Measurements Units Ontology
  • Developed by CTIC
  • Instances of UCUM (Unified Code for Units of Measure)
  • We have extend MUO with 11 new UCUM instances

Conclusions & Future Work

  • We have developed an easily reusable model for enviromental stations, extending SWEET with a pair of instances and MUO with 11 instances.
  • We have published as Linked Data a huge dataset with:
    • 277,718,535 of triples
    • 28,121,496 of observations
  • We are working with data about solid wastes!

Thank you! ;-)
